Design Story

Hayes Valley is a consistent guest favorite: the foundation of our cafe espresso drinks and a best seller for whole bean coffee. It’s also our darkest espresso on the menu and completely organic — what’s not to love? Sip it straight to appreciate the voluptuous tawny crema and impressive viscosity. Or add milk to soften its brooding aspects for a sweeter yet assertive drink.

Bella Donovan is the cashmere sweater of our blends — comforting, cozy, and enveloping. A naturally processed Ethiopian coffee with jammy berry notes brings a glimmer of fruit to the chocolate-heavy base. Roasted on the darker side for sweetness and body, this organic blend straddles the worlds of complexity and comfort while standing up to automatic drip machines or a heavy pour of milk or cream.

We often call this trio of African coffees the single-origin lover’s blend. Yet the appeal of Three Africas spans more than any one kind of coffee. Sparkling yet grounded, Three Africas is roasted dark enough to be rounded and full, yet light enough to let flecks of berries and citrus shine. It’s an organic coffee that gives more than what the drinker is asking for: fruit, nuance, radiance, and a deep sweetness that wins over just about everyone.
